Course Project
Personal Reflection & Cultural Understanding
Explanation
The purpose of this course was to become acquainted with research and theory that examined the influence of culture and psychology through the textbook, assignments, and the supplemental material in each module. The assignments pictured on this page showcase how the course objections were referenced and implemented to help the students understand the importance of culture in psychology.

Reflection

I especially liked the supplemental material that expanded on the learning concepts of each module we went into and was more excited to get to them when I started a new week! I loved how the cultural diversity and understanding people from other cultures for successful interacting was referenced constantly. I reflected on my military career when questions or topics arose referencing these two objectives and started to connect the pieces! Who would have thought that those encounters I had could be looked at from a psychological standpoint! I also feel that the lessons helped to develop my critical thinking skills because of the fact that I had to make the assignments personal. Making material personal to me helps me to retain the information better and recall it when it comes test time! I believe it is a hidden secret in learning!

Discussion of Skills

-Make decisions and solve problems: The assignments required students to use critical thinking to apply lessons to real life explanations through the assignments.
-Plan, organize, and prioritize work: In order to complete work within the required time, I need to organize and prioritize learning over other aspects in my life.
-Demonstrate computer software proficiency: To complete the assignments I had to use programs such as Canva and Canvas to read course material and lectures.
-Obtain and process information: Understanding of the course material required personal reflection and comprehension of material to apply learning objectives properly.

Future Application

Having an understanding of the importance of Culture in Psychology will help me in my career as a Research Psychologist by allowing me to integrate and communicate in respectful and meaningful methods that are culturally required or relevant with peers, coworkers, or patients. Understanding of how culture influence the development of one's self and molds a persons personality will allow me the insight into understanding the behaviors behind actions and motivation behind thought.
